Zusammenfassung:Saraguro is a place with natural and cultural wealth, so the use of medicinal plants is observed even during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The general objective of the study was “To determine the traditional use of medicinal plants in pregnant and postpartum women from the native communities of the Saraguro-Loja urban parish, during the period October 2021-August 2022”, and the specific objectives, “Identify medicinal plants most used by pregnant and postpartum women”, “Specify the use of medicinal plants according to the stage of pregnancy and postpartum”, “Characterize the forms of preparation of medicinal plants”, and “Recognize the adverse effects derived from the use of medicinal plants”. The research approach is mixed with a descriptive design, applying a survey to 40 pregnant and postpartum women, of which 80% stated that they used medicinal plants, of which 24 plants with therapeutic objectives were obtained, being chamomile (32%) the most used plant in pregnancy and carrot leaf (26.67%) the most used in the postpartum period. Chamomile during the first and second trimester of pregnancy was used for abdominal pain, in the third trimester lemon balm for nerves and during the immediate postpartum period the use of carrot leaf was highlighted as a purgative and to promote milk production. The way to prepare the plants during pregnancy and the postpartum period was as an infusion. None of the participants reported having had any adverse effects. We conclude that chamomile is the most used plant during pregnancy and carrot leaf is the most used plant during the postpartum period, used to treat abdominal pain and promote milk production respectively. The infusion is the main form of preparation during pregnancy and the postpartum period. No adverse effects were reported with its use
