الملخص:In this research project which has as its theme: "THE GAME AS METHODOLOGICAL STRATEGY AND ITS IMPACT ON THE BASIC GENERAL EDUCATION FIRST YEAR CHILDREN COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT SANTO TOMAS APOSTOL SCHOOL RIOBAMBA CITY, PERIOD 2013 – 2014” it has been organized and developed in accordance with the Rules of the Academic Board of the Loja National University. The General Objective was to determine game the incidence as a methodological strategy the basic general education first year children cognitive development Santo Tomas Apóstol school Riobamba city. The methods used were: Scientist, Bibliographic, Qualitative, Inductive, Deductive and Statistical Model, the same as those applied in order to describe, explain and demonstrate the game importance as a methodological strategy and its impact on cognitive development in children. The techniques and tools that were applied were: teacher’s survey to set the application as a methodological strategy Game in Daily Work Day; and the Cognitive Test for assessing Cognitive Development Skills children. From the results of the teachers survey concluded that 92% of respondents use the game as a methodological strategy in Daily Work, and 8% of teachers do not use it, as to the importance of play in the cognitive development of the children is determined that 100% of teachers surveyed consider that it has a relevance in this development. From the results of the Test of Cognitive Skills concluded that performing a correlation between natural score and chronological age has been determined by the percentiles and ranks achieved by each of the students has earned an appreciative percentage equivalencies outstanding, very good close to outstanding and very good corresponding to 63.25%, 15.81% and 18.13% respectively in total represent 209 students; and unrepresentative percentage of 1.39%, 0.46% and 0.93% next equivalence of good to very good, good and good respectively regulate next corresponding to a population of 6 pupils investigated.
