Summary: | The objective of the research was the morphological characterization of cherimoya for the identification of variability and potentially commercial aptitudes in the Loja canton, where 38 accessions were characterized and distributed in the sectors of Malacatos, Yangana and Loja, from which data were taken on geographic location, longitude, latitude and altitude, The data were used to create a location map of the accessions. Subsequently, 16 qualitative variables and 21 quantitative variables were evaluated for the in-situ characterization of the tree, leaves and flowers, and for the ex-situ characterization, the fruit was considered, where 15 quantitative variables and 11 qualitative variables were evaluated according to the Biodiversity International descriptor. Multivariate statistical methods such as hierarchical grouping, correlation analysis and correspondence analysis were used. Coefficients of variation were determined for quantitative data, while frequency tables were calculated for qualitative data. In general, the highest levels of variation were found in crown diameter (cv = 27.36%), main stem height (cv = 69.76%), shoot length (cv = 27.17%), fruit diameter (cv = 28.02%), number of seeds per 100 grams of pulp (cv = 56.90%) and fruit firmness (cv = 36.63%). Of all the accessions evaluated, those with superior characteristics and similar to commercial varieties such as Fino de Jete and Iniap-fabulosa were selected. The accessions that presented characteristics with commercial potential were LLTA01 with smooth skin and little oxidation, LYHB10 smooth, without oxidation and LMPB05 printed, little oxidation, which presented the following characteristics in terms of fruit weight (633.24; 562.03; 627.29 g), brix degrees (29.38; 24.10; 24.23), seed content in 100g of pulp (5.97; 12.27; 12.06 %), titratable acidity (0.38; 0.39; 0.49 %) and fruit firmness (21.13; 17.94; 24.58 N) respectively. |
