Summary: | The objective of the present investigation is based on a study and evaluation of the operating conditions of the public lighting systems at the Faculty of Energy, Industry, and Non-Renewable Natural Resources of the National University of Loja (FEIRNNR). Through a feasibility study for the implementation of more efficient lighting, it will allow for the improvement of this service, determining the operating conditions, identifying failure points in these systems, and developing recommendations to reduce energy consumption, thus ensuring a more efficient use of energy and generating lower billing costs for better illumination. Initially, an evaluation of the current public lighting system installed in the area was developed, and through light measurements, information was gathered to understand the operation of the public lighting lamps installed in the faculty in order to establish their behavior under conditions of maximum and minimum consumption and luminous efficiency. This, complemented by an evaluation process and identification of the different elements that structure the electrical grid, allows for the establishment of improvement points in the service. Once the possible deficiencies of the service and its components have been identified, some necessary recommendations are established to correct or replace the elements that cause deficiencies in the public lighting service, using as a guide the standards and regulations responsible for controlling this system and service; necessary changes are established according to the collected information and tests performed, thus proposing the need to migrate to lighting source technology in the Faculty, allowing the generation of management policies and better management of the electrical grid, thereby establishing guidelines for future resource optimization investigations in the different faculties of the National University of Loja.
