| Gaia: | The present research was developed with the purpose of characterizing the patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Loja’s Isidro Ayora Hospital during 2018 and to evaluate the usefulness of the scores NEWS2, SOFA, qSOFA and SIRS criteria in the prediction of both mortality and prolonged intra-ICU stay in patients undergoing an infectious process. It is a descriptive – correlational study, with a retrospective cross section. The universe was 326 individuals, who constitute the total number of patients admitted to the ICU during the year 2018, with a sample of 171 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, in whom statistical analysis was performed. The average age was 52 years (± 23.10) and 50.9% of patients were female; the main reason for admission were respiratory diseases (19.9%) and septic conditions (16.9%). Upon admission, 62.9% of patients were under mechanical ventilation and 26.7% were receiving vasoactive. The gross mortality was 37.4%, with an average stay in the ICU of 8.7 days. The scales that evidenced greater capacity as predictors of mortality were SOFA, with an AUROC of 0.702 (95% CI 0.624 - 0.78) and NEWS2, with an AUROC of 0.67 (95% CI 0.59 - 0.75), being the SIRS criteria those with the worst performance. Only NEWS2 showed some utility in the prediction of prolonged ICU stay, with AUCOR of 0.610 (95% CI 0.523 - 0.697). Keywords: mortality, ICU, intensive care unit, SOFA, NEWS2, qSOFA, SIRS. |
