| description | BACKGROUND Advances in technology have resulted Multidetector Computed Tomography in significant improvements in the resolution of the images that allows small nodules are detected in thyroid examinations performed for other indications. In our environment is frequently observed incidental nodules are overlooked in radiologist interpretation however certain tomographic patterns could guide the radiologist on how to interpret this finding. METHOD Using MDCT was evaluated thyroid gland in a total of 148 cases that went to performed a CT of the chest and neck from any origin unless thyroid pathology, after which we determined the frequency of incidental nodules found and crossed the information obtained with the primary radiology report. In this cross-sectional study used descriptive statistics to make conclusions. RESULTS A total of 201 estudies, 148 (73.6%) cases met the inclusion criteria, in which we identified, by rereading of images 43 nodules in 36 cases (24.3%), whereas with the primary radiological diagnosis ,11 nodules were observed in 11 cases (7.4%). CONCLUSION Incidental thyroid nodules detected by computed tomography are common in our environment, the radiologist greater attention to this organ during tomographic assessment could provide relevant information to include in the radiology report. |

En nuestro medio es frecuente observar nódulos incidentales que son pasados por alto en la interpretación del radiólogo sin embargo ciertos patrones tomográficos podrían orientar al radiólogo sobre cómo interpretar este hallazgo. METODO Mediante TCMD se evaluó la tiroides en un total de 148 casos que acudieron a realizarse una TC de tórax y cuello por cualquier patología menos de origen tiroideo, luego de lo cual se determinó la frecuencia de nódulos incidentales encontrados y se cruzó la información obtenida con el reporte radiológico primario. En este estudio de corte transversal utilizamos estadística descriptiva para realizar las conclusiones. RESULTADOS De un total de 201 estudios, 148 (73,6%) casos cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, en los cuales se identificaron, mediante la relectura de las imágenes 43 nódulos distribuidos en 36 pacientes (24.3%), mientras que con el diagnóstico radiológico primario se observaron 11 nódulos en 11 casos (7.4%).
