Composición mensual de la riqueza y abundancia de luciérnagas (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) de la Reserva Madrigal del Podocarpus

Fireflies, belonging to the family Lampyridae within the order Coleoptera, are insects of a great ecologic and scientific interest. The main objective of this research was to analyze the monthly composition of lampyrids at the Reserva Madrigal del Podocarpus, in order to know their monthly distribution and the factors that influence on their life cycle. Fourteen Malaise traps were used, located at random points in four types of vegetation cover of the reserve. Measurements of variables such as temperature, humidity, precipitation and the amount of leaf litter on the ground in the studied area. Data was gathered during four months of study. Six morphospecies of fireflies were recorded, including individuals of the subfamily Photurinae, such as the genus Lucidota and the tribe Photinini, including the genera Photinus, Psilocladus and Haplocauda. The highest number of individuals was collected in June, with a total of 18 individuals, followed by May and April, where 12 and 11 individuals were recorded in each month, so the total number of individuals was 44. The data were analyzed using a Principal Component Analysis (PCA), a Correspondence Analysis (CA) and a Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA), from which it was determined that firefly species are influenced by environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, precipitation and leaf litter. Particularly, in months with higher humidity and lower temperatures, firefly species like Photurinae sp.1 and Lucidota sp.1 have higher numbers. While leaf litter and precipitation influenced the presence of Haplocauda and Psilocladus individuals in June.
