Because in older adults the symptoms associated with this pathology can be confused as something normal of aging it is very unlikely to be able to diagnose it in time since most of them do not speak about their feelings, it is very unlikely to be able to diagnose it in time, In addition most of them are cursed and do not talk about their feelings, These go unnoticed by their closest relatives, Or people who attend them daily and these can lead to trigger fatal complications such as suicide or excessive consumption of alcohol that in turn exacerbates the existing depression. Taking into account all this problematic generated in this vulnerable group of the society was considered the possibility of carrying out the investigation with the objective of determining the most frequent causes of depression in the elderly majors of the gerontological center of Canton Nangaritza. The methodology used was descriptive, with a sample of 55 older adults who were given the Yasevage test; Of whom 49 older adults presented depression, they were then interviewed with simple questions focused on social factors that would help us to determine which are the most frequent causes of depression, and to determine the physical factors the index was applied Katz; As for the results, we have 63.3% of the study group corresponding to 31 older adults are women, while 36.7% corresponding to 18 older adults are men, of which 51% are between 75-84 years Ie 36.7% are young adults who are between 65-74 years old, and only 12.2% are aged 85 or older, in terms of the level of depression they present 33 older adults obtained a score between 10-19 points indicating that they have a moderate depression, while 16 obtained a score between 20-30 points that indicates that they have a severe depression having as characteristics between social factors the level of schooling , Not having a permanent job, having lost a family member or friend who has not been able to recover emotionally and live alone. Among the physical factors we have that dependence is a cause of depression since 75.5% of the elderly are dependent, being the mobility the activity in which they have more dependence. It is so that the depression is of particular interest since if it is detected in time and if we offer it support with dedication we can achieve favorable results and a healthier society psychologically KEYWORDS: Causal factors, older adult, depression.
