Summary:During pregnancy thyroid gland functionality may be altered, the action of the thyroid hormones are vitally important for fetal growth and development, when these hormones are altered there may be maternal and fetal complications for this reason the following objective was formulated: To evaluate the thyroid function alterations during pregnancy, in patients treated in the Hospital Universitario Motupe in the city of Loja. The type of study is retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional and was performed in the Hospital Universitario Motupe in the city of Loja in the period June-November, 2015, with an universe of 275 pregnant women and a sample of 49 pregnant women that meet the inclusion requirements, the data obtained were captured in a collection sheet prepared by the author, obtaining as a result: In TSH the 4,08% (n=2) present low values, and the 2,04% (n=1) high values; in the T3 results, the 2,04% (n=1) low values, the 2,04% (n=1) high values; in T4 the 2,04% (n=1) low values, the 4,08% (n=2) high values. The 66,67% (n=2) have TSH alteration in the first trimester, in T3 the 50% (n=1) in the first and second trimester; and in T4 the 66,67% (n=2) in the second trimester. The 100% (n=49) of the patients present a normal thyroid function. Exists alteration in the TSH in the 66,67% (n=2) between 16 and 20 years old; in T3 the 50% (n=1) between 16 and 20 years old, and between 31 and 39 years old; In T4 the 33,33% (n=1), ranging in age between 16 and 20 years old; 21 and 30 years old and more than 40 years old. Therefore, it is concluded that there is a thyroid function alteration in the pregnant women treated, but not with pathology like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, in the Hospital Universitario Motupe in the city of Loja.
