Conocimiento sobre la píldora anticonceptiva de emergencia en estudiantes de la Facultad de la Salud Humana de la Universidad Nacional de Loja

The emergency contraceptive pill (PAE), is a method considered as a last line to prevent an unplanned pregnancy, it arises as an intervention initiative focused on the health field, with health personnel being the main source of information. The present research work "Knowledge about the emergency contraceptive pill in students of the Facultad de la Salud Humana de la Universidad Nacional de Loja ", whose objective was to determine the knowledge about PAE in the indicated population. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional investigation, a survey was applied to 307 students, the data were entered into the SPSS® statistical program and presented in crossed tables, the results determined that the average age of the participants, is 21 years old, mostly belonging to the female sex represented by 69.7%; 98.4% of the total population are of single marital status. Regarding the level of knowledge about PAE, it was determined that 48.2% have poor knowledge, followed by 39.4% who possess regular knowledge and only 12.4% have good knowledge. In terms of knowledge about PAE, it was determined that they know the definition (90.2%), indications (87%), adverse effects (75.2%) and effectiveness (77.1%), however, a high percentage of students don´t know the administration schemes of Yuzpe (78.2%) and Levonorgestrel (64.9%) methods, as well as the contraindications (75.2%) and mechanism of action (54.4%) of PAE, important aspects for the correct use and promotion.
