description Academic stress is a physiological, emotional, cognitive and behavioral reaction that is activated before a stimulus or academic events, it is presented as a problem that deteriorates the mental health of students, this situation can cause exhaustion, little interest in studying, nervousness, among others, affecting their academic performance. Due to, the objective of this investigation was to determine the relationship between academic stress and academic performance in students of the National University of Loja. It was a crosssectional quantitative study, with a non-experimental, field and correlational design, in which 155 students of the Clinical Psychology career between 18 and 29 years of age participated. For data collection, the SISCO Academic Stress scale (Barraza, 2006) and the academic record base of grades of the students of the career were used to know the academic performance. The results show a high level of academic stress and excellent academic performance in most of the investigated population, obtaining these results through the use of statistical methods "IBM SPSS Statistics". It was concluded that there is no significant relationship between the exposed variables, a result acquired by means of Kendall's correlation coefficient. Finally, based on the results its conclude that there are many causes and effects that generate stress, therefore, a psychological intervention plan was made with the purpose of reducing the levels of stress in students for the improvement of their health and mental wellbeing.

Es así que el objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar la relación entre el estrés académico y el rendimiento académico en los estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional de Loja. Fue un estudio cuantitativo de corte transversal, con un diseño no experimental, de campo y correlacional, en el cual participaron 155 estudiantes de la Carrera de Psicología Clínica de edades entre 18 a 29 años. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó la escala de SISCO Estrés académico (Barraza, 2006) y la base de registro académico de notas de los estudiantes de la carrera, para conocer el rendimiento académico. Los resultados muestran un alto nivel de estrés académico y un excelente rendimiento académico en la mayor parte de la población investigada, obteniendo estos resultados mediante el uso de métodos estadísticos “IBM SPSS Statistics”. Concluyéndose que no existe una relación significativa entre las variables expuestas, resultado adquirido mediante el coeficiente de correlación de Kendall.
