| Resumo: | The aims of the current study were to determine the influence of the partogram over obstetric decision-making process for women in labor at term through the early diagnosis and detection of the deviation curves; to establish the correct completion of the partogram; to determine the number and percentage of vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections; and to determine the correlation between the incorrect completion of the partogram with the number of deliveries, cesarean sections, and the maternalfetal compromise. It was a field, retrospective, correlational, analytical and documentary study. This research was carried out at the Isidro Ayora Regional Hospital during the period from January to June 2015. The study universe was integrated by 100 women in labor at term, and the study sample consisted of 50 women that met the criteria for inclusión. The partograms included in the medical histories were analyzed using a data collection form elaborated by the author. The following results were obtained: the 100% (n=50) of the partograms that were filled out incorrectly did not influence on the obstetric decision-making process through the early diagnosis of the deviation curves; the 98% (n=49) of the partograms that were filled out incorrectly ended up being vaginal deliveries; the 2% (n=1) ended up being cesarean section; and the absence of maternalfetal morbi-mortality did not correlate with the incorrect completion of the partogram, nor the number of vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections. It is recommended to raise awareness among medical staff about the importance of the correct registration of the partogram and to promote the development of research projects that evaluate the process of moving towards a correct registration and use of this instrument.
