Summary:The current research work entitled “Geological study – Geotechnical for the extension of the road Sauce - San Antonio kilometer 1 – 4.5, to level of ballasted, located in the Paltas town, Provincia de Loja” it focused on identify and determine the geological characteristics and geotechnical through applications of direct and indirect methods presented on the Ecuadorian Norm of the Construction (NEC): Geotecnia and Sedimentations. It began with a topographical raising detailed on the area of study covering a total of 439, 52 Ha, its relief is irregular whose variation of heights goes from the 1120 m s.n.m to 1712 m s.n.m, being this the highest elevation. The geology was obtained from the description of outcrops, where it was determined the area is constituted mostly by Tobas of the Catacocha unit and materials of formation River Playas (conglomerates). The geotechnical data were obtained through the direct method: it was carried out 3 calicatas obtaining thus data in situ and laboratory, the grounds according to SUCS concern to GM and SM, according to AASHTO A-2-6 and A-2-7; e indirect: 3 lines SEV it assumed lithologies and thicknesses of each layer from on the resistividades of sub-grounds and it was determined the presence of water in the second line to a depth of 8,7m; it claimed that it used the fix Schlumberger and Software IPI2Win. To complete the study was considered the classification of rocky solid through the RMR obtention, thus obtaining a solid that belong to the CLASS III so it indicates that the quality of the rock is REGULAR.
