During this process the elderly experienced the loss of spouses, children, friends, changes in the level of de family as well as in the aspect that often take their families to confine them in asistensiales senior centers. Then comes the need to investigate this paper entoleted: “LEVEL OF DEPRESSION IN THE ENDERLY IN NURSING HOMES ESTEBAN QUIROLA 2015-2016” which aims to determine the level of depression in older adults, who enroll institutionalized in the geriatric center. The study is observational, exploratory level, descriptive method of cross section. The example was composed of 39 elderly the technique used wars the interview and as an instrument of depression scale Beeck. It was concluded that the institutionalized elderly suffer a severe type of depression in mosly the female gender widowers mainly those individuals. Keywords: depression, Elderly, Aging |

Keywords: depression, Elderly, AgingEn los últimos años la población adulta mayor, ha ido incrementando significativamente.Llegar a esta etapa de vida implica una serie de cambios a nivel psicosocial y biológico que se evidencia por la modificación en el funcionamiento del cuerpo y la aparición de enfermedades crónico degenerativas. Durante este proceso los adultos mayores experimentan la pérdida de cónyuges, hijos, amigos, cambios en el rol de la familia así como en el aspecto económico y social. Cabe mencionar además la falta de tiempo, y otros aspectos que llevan en muchas ocasiones a sus familiares a recluirlos en centros asistenciales para adultos mayores. Surge entonces la necesidad de investigar con el presente trabajo titulado” NIVEL DE DEPRESION EN EL ADULTO MAYOR EN EL HOGAR DE ANCIANOS ESTEBAN QUIROLA MACHALA 2015-2016” el cual tiene como objetivo determinar el nivel de depresión de los adultos mayores que se encuentran institucionalizados en el centro geriátrico.El estudio es de tipo observacional, nivel aplicativo, método descriptivo, de corte transversal. La muestra estuvo constituida por 39 adultos mayores, la técnica empleada fue la entrevista y como instrumento se utilizó la escala de Depresión de Beck. Se concluyó que los adultos mayores institucionalizados sufren un tipo de depresión grave 33% en su mayoría principalmente los de género femenino siendo mayor aún la depresión en aquellos que son viudos.
