Opis
Izvleček:Anxiety and depression are psychiatric disorders that alter the biopsychosocial, cultural and spiritual balance, causing patients to experience symptoms such as tension, fear and insomnia. Undoubtedly, the negative experiences that the patient may have in relation to a surgical intervention can directly affect their recovery and increase their hospital stay. The aim of this study was to describe mood disorders in pre-surgical patients hospitalized in the surgical area of the Isidro Ayora General Hospital, according to clinical and sociodemographic factors. The study was a descriptive, quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional design. Seventy patients who met the inclusion criteria participated. A survey was used as a technique and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) as an instrument. The data were processed in the SPSS 2.2 program and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings obtained in relation to the sociodemographic characteristics indicate that 61.4% are male, 47.1% correspond to the adult age group, 37.1% are unemployed, and 45.7% have primary education and are unmarried. As for the clinical factors related to mood disorders, 94.3 % of the patients were hospitalized for 1 to 5 days, anxiety was a clinical problem in 50 % of the population and depression was normal in 65.7 % of the population. It is considered that the mood disorders present in hospitalized pre-surgical patients correspond to normal depression and anxiety as a clinical problem, especially in patients hospitalized from 1 to 5 days, with no reported history of hospitalization or pathology, and sociodemographic factors that coincide with unemployment and primary education level
