| Zusammenfassung: | The main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance in students in the first cycles of Nursing career at the Instituto Tecnologico Superior Sudamericano. The research was of a quantitative type, it was developed under a descriptive, analytical, and explanatory methodology, with a total sample of 55 students of the same career. As an instrument to quantify the level of emotional intelligence of the students, the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory version for young people (ICE:NA) was used in its adaptation for Latin America by Ugarriza and Pajares. To measure academic performance, the average grades of the first bimester of the students determined by the ISTS Academic Management System were obtained. Regarding the results, it is evident that of all the students, 43.6% have a "low" emotional capacity, that is, they do not have the adequate capacity to manage and control their own emotions correctly and those of others. Likewise, 47% of students have a good academic performance, followed by 34.5% with regular academic performance; and, 14.6% with deficient performance added the regular and the deficient that are percentages used for the present investigation gives us a total of 49%. Additionally, it is disclosed that the lowest academic performance is in the subject of Cellular Biology. Likewise, the results confirmed the existence of a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance with a positive correlation degree of 0.7 between the study variables, which indicates that emotional intelligence does influence directly and to a great extent on academic performance of nursing students. Keywords: emotional intelligence, academic performance, emotional skills. |
