Los procesos cognitivos básicos de atención y memoria y la comprensión lectora en estudiantes de primer ciclo de la carrera de Electricidad, de la Universidad Nacional de Loja, 2024

The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship that exists between the basic cognitive processes of attention and memory and reading comprehension. The study carried out responds to a quantitative approach, correlational and transversal, with a non- experimental design. The instruments applied were the D2 Attention Test, the Reynolds Intelligence Scale (RIAS) and the instrument to evaluate reading comprehension in university students (ICLAU), in a sample of 27 first cycle students of the Electricity career at the Universidad Nacional de Loja, to analyze the correlation that exists between the variables, the Kendall's Tau-b rank correlation coefficient was used and to interpret these results, Pearson's linear correlation scale was taken into consideration. The results showed that, 74.07% present a low level of attention and 18.52% present a high level. With respect to memory, 37.04% have a medium level and 62.96% are at a high level. Regarding reading comprehension, students presented a low level 44.44%, while 48.15% are at an average level. The correlation between attention and reading comprehension has a value of Kendall's Tau-b of -0.23, which means that a medium negative correlation was obtained, while the correlation between memory and reading comprehension shows a value of -0.23. +0.187, meaning that a medium positive correlation was obtained.
