Description
Summary:Globally, forests are responsible for providing products and services derived from them, such as: fodder, fruits, medicines, dendroenergy, soil and water protection, CO2 capture among others. These places, rich in biodiversity, are affected by deforestation originated by the loss and fragmentation of large areas of forest. The analysis of land-use change helps to understand the factors that influence the depletion of this resource. Therefore, this research analyzed the changes in temporal space and the degree of fragmentation that exists in the Cononaco parish during 30 years (1987 - 2017) through a supervised classification, the TerrSet and ERDAS Imagine softwares were used for existing coverages in the area . Thus, by the year 1987 the forest cover occupied 99.11% of the total area of the parish, while by 2017 this coverage decreased to 98.71%, losing 2 620 ha representing 0.4% in the period of study, emerging agricultural land and the anthropic zone. In addition, using the Guidos software, it was determined that the surface of the islands increased 0.04% while the nuclei decreased 2.68% in extension, which means that there are fragmentation processes within the study area.
