Yhteenveto:Along time, Ecuador has gone through multiple economic and political conflicts. This has undoubtedly affected small and medium-sized businesses. This research work was carried out based on the national economic growth of small and medium-sized businesses according to data and statistics from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC in Spanish). Then, a correlational analysis was carried out determining economic growth as the dependent variable, measured through employment and the wage bill, and the independent variables were national sales and exports. It was found that the global pandemic had an impact on the growth of small and medium-sized businesses, as there was a general decline in 2020. As for the multiple linear regression model, it allowed to determine that national sales have a positive contribution of 1.3% to economic growth, measured through employment; and 1.79% measured through the wage bill, in both cases they are significant results. While, on the export side, this was negative and not significant for both models. Therefore, improvements are proposed for the business sector in Ecuador and the creation of new strategies to support small and medium-sized businesses in accordance with the current situation that is being experienced in the country.
