Summary:The present study aims to evaluate the level of knowledge about contraception in women who breastfeed, who were treated at the Health Center No. 1 in the city of Loja during the period April - September 2014; as well as determining attitudes and practices related to the contraceptive methods. For this reason, a descriptive study was performed and cross-sectional; the universe and sample were 72 women; For the realization of the present work it was necessary to carry out an interview stating the reasons and the necessary information that is requested, also prepared a survey to obtain data.. Of the total sample the 69.44 % have received secondary education and the 23.61 % higher education, with regard to knowledge on the disadvantages and benefits of contraceptive methods, the 44.44 % had very good rating and the 43.063 % rating good, and that is related to the level of instruction as to a higher level of education is knowledge. Oral contraceptives are most commonly used with a 27.78 %, implants used the 25% and a 26.39 % not using contraception. The 31.94 % have had at any occasion difficulties to access to the use and/or knowledge of contraceptive methods, the most frequent cause is the timidity of to go to health centers. With regard to attitudes, the vast majority are in agreement with the use of contraceptive methods for family planning. Key Words: contraceptive methods, knowledge, women who breastfeed.
