The work concerned the geo-referenced collection of secondary and field information both on location, and distribution of three species Sapindus saponaria L, Colicodendron scabridum (Kunth) Seem and Caesalpinia spinosa (Molina) Kuntze, then these data were represented cartographically by the application of GIS and relate them to the ecological factors (altitude, soil, geology, precipitation and mean annual temperature), for which classes or ranges of each analyzed factor were defined so to apply the method of ecological profiles and elaborate distribution maps and silvicultural zoning map, resulting in identification of three potential zones for the distribution of species, occupying an area of 13 329 ha, representing 20,45% of the total territory, which have ecological requirements necessary for distribution and optimal development. These results will provide information for future reforestation plans for the ecosystems of the inter-Andean dry valley of southern Ecuador. Keywords: ecological profiles, geographic information systems, silvicultural zoning.La presente investigación tiene como objetivo el estudio de la Influencia de factores geo-ecológicos en la distribución de especies forestales nativas del cantón Catamayo, mediante la aplicación del programa estadístico de los perfiles ecológicos (CALCPERF) y los sistemas de información geográfica (SIG) que fue proporcionada por SEMPLADES y el municipio de Catamayo a una escala 1:25 000. El Trabajo consistió en la recopilación de información georreferenciada secundaria y de campo tanto de ubicación y distribución de tres especies: Sapindus saponaria L, Colicodendron scabridum (Kunth) Seem y Caesalpinia spinosa (Molina) Kuntze, luego estos datos se representaron cartográficamente mediante la aplicación de los SIG y se los relaciono con los factores ecológicos (altitud, suelo, geología, precipitación y temperatura media anual), para lo cual se definió clases o rangos para cada factor y así poder aplicar el método de los perfiles ecológicos y elaborar los mapas de distribución y de zonificación silvícola, dando como resultado la identificación de tres zonas potenciales para la distribución de las especies, que ocupan un área de 13 329 ha que representan el 20,45 % del total del territorio, que cuentan con los requerimientos ecológicos necesarios para su distribución y óptimo desarrollo. Estos resultados aportarán con información para futuros planes de reforestación de los ecosistemas del valle seco interandino del sur del Ecuador.
