| Summary: | Presbycusis is defined, "as a hearing loss caused by degenerative changes, related to age. It is influenced by genetic, environmental, labor, cardiovascular, habits, among others; that accelerate or aggravate cellular aging, causing socio-emotional problems that affect the lifestyle of older adults." In the following investigation, which is of a transversal descriptive type, has as an overall objective: Knowing the risk factors associated with presbycusis in people over 65 years of age, who were treated at the Hearing and Language Center - Loja (CEAL) - 2017, to promote a prevention program and to improve the quality of life of the elderly people who present a disabling hearing; and, as specific objectives: determining the associated factors with the highest incidence in presbycusis, establishing the relationship between the associated factors and the audiometric profile, determining the socio-emotional consequences of presbycusis in people older than 65 years who were treated in the CEAL-2017 and build a prevention program of presbycusis in order to improve the lifestyle of the older adult who presents a disabling hearing. An Auditory Clinical History was applied to 148 patients, finding that 47.3% had associated cardiovascular and environmental factors; and 69.6% present socio-emotional consequences such as difficulty in communication and depression. Concluding that arterial hypertension is presented as the main cardiovascular factor and smoking is the major environmental factor which affects the audiometric profile of the older adult by developing degrees of hearing loss, they range from mild to severe and they also influence the socio-emotional environment, by presenting difficulty in communication and depression.
