Crynodeb:There are more numbers of diseases and patients, that can be treat by transplants, this increase means more patients that are waiting for organ transplantation. The liver transplant is effective whether organs are used from living or dead patients, but it is becoming more difficult to find the perfect deceased donor. In this study it was determined the liver donor risk index associated with the graft survival of dead patients of the Intensive Care Unit at Isidro Ayora Hospital in 2013. That is why a quantitative, descriptive and retrospective study was made, and the sample included 42 dead patients of the Intensive Care Unit, the information was obtained of the medical record of each patient from the Statistical Service Hospital and then were applied in the Liver Donor Risk Index Calculator developed by Marc L. Melcher MD, PhD, FACS; that provides a estimation of the graft survival. As a result it was obtained that the 35.7% of the dead patients, had a Liver Donor Risk Index from 1.8 to 2.0 with a graft survival in the 3 months of 83%, 1 year of 75% and the 3 years of 66%. The 66.7 % were male donors. In this study was found that from the 78 dead patients, 42 were potential liver donors with 53.8%. With these results, it is important to create a donor coordination and organ retrieval team in the Hospital in order to not lose more organs in the future. Key Words: Donation, liver donor risk index, liver transplant.
