| Gaia: | This research focuses on determining the prevalence of alcohol-induced liver disease in patients between 30-70 years of age. Within its specific objectives are to determine the risk factors, stage and main complications of alcohol-induced liver disease. This investigation is of a quantitative and transversal character, its study area corresponds to the service of the Isidro Ayora Hospital's Medical Clinic, in the period from July to December 2014, for a total of 60 patients for which their medical history was used as a data collection sheet. To analyze all of the information collected, computer and research programs such as Excel and Word were used. Of the 60 patients under study 55 were men and 5 were women. The risk factors that had the most influence were; marital status, low socioeconomic standing, level of primary education, age range between 30 and 70 years old, period of alcohol intake and consumption being more than 10 years on a weekly basis and an ingested beverage quantity of 1250 ml. Within the stages of liver disease, 33 patients with steatosis, 15 with hepatitis and 12 in the stage of cirrhosis were found. Determining alcohol-induced liver disease in its early stages helps prevent morbidity and mortality because it is a silent disease that can cause many complications but when diagnosed early it is reversible. KEY WORDS: Alcohol-induced liver disease, Hepatic steatosis, Hepatitis, Cirrhosis. |
