Čoahkkáigeassu: | The Gualel parish of the canton and province of Loja is an agricultural zone; however, there are restrictions at the moment to produce: high fertilizer costs, the presence of acidic soils and insufficient agricultural technology. The present research work focuses on the contribution to family farming through the generation of nitrogen well elucidated using the Azolla-Anabaena symbiosis. It was carried out the production of nitrogen through azolla and consequently, the evaluation of the effect of nitrogen on the chard crop (Beta vulgaris L.). In an experimental randomized block design, the following four treatments were tested with three replicates: farmer control; conventional nitrogen (Vigorizer 30–10–10) requirement of 1 500 mg/l per plant; irrigation with NitrAgua application of 17,14 mg/l every 10 days; dry biomass of azolla 17 500 mg/l with NitrAgua 17,14 ppm, every 15 days; the variables evaluated were: plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter and final weight of chard. In contrast to the conventional nitrogen and farmer control with 26 cm height, 8 and 9 leaves, respectively, the biomass of azolla + NitrAgua reached 30 cm of plant height and 12 true leaves; furthermore, there was a weight of 1,10 kg/plant and with the farmer control 0,78 kg/plant. As a result, the final yield of the crop was 55 t/ha. The marginal rate of return was 176 %. Keywords: fern, azolla, biofertilizers, biological fixation, biomass |
