In Ecuador it ranks second among the causes of general mortality. However, the number is much higher because more than half of the people who suffer from it do not know. The main objective of this investigation was to determine the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the population of the Catamayo Catatonic Headland, the age and sex with the highest risk as well as the main risk factors presented by this population and for this was applied a test known worldwide as FINISH DIABETES RISK SCORE (FINDRISK) for being a feasible tool to assess the risk of presenting diabetes to 10 years, has successfully passed the requirements of epidemiological validity, low cost, simplicity and non-invasion, required by any tool screening; from which it was concluded that a large percentage corresponding to 38.9% revealed a low risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus in 10 years, while a percentage of 8.2% (n = 30) of the people present a high risk of developing this pathology ; 5 major risk factors with more people, within which are determined: BMI 25-30 (overweight) 41.3% (n = 152) population; 47.6% (n = 175) of the population referred the non-consumption of fruits and vegetables daily in your diet; 45.4% (n = 167) of the population did not exercise daily; 45.4% (n = 167) of the surveyed population had a normal abdominal perimeter-high; the age with the highest cases of high risk are between the ages of 55-64 years of age; and the sex with the highest number of cases at high risk of developing this pathology is the male sex.
