| Sammanfattning: | The consumption of electrical energy is a key element for the economic development of a country, thus improving the quality of life of the population. Therefore, this research had as a general objective "To determine the relationship that exists between the consumption of electric power per capita and the GDP in Ecuador, period 1980-2016". The investigative techniques used were the bibliographic, statistical and econometric, likewise, a self-regressive vector model (VAR) and error correction model (VEC) of time series was proposed, the secondary information used was obtained from the base of Data World Development Indicators (2017) from the World Bank. From the present investigation it was concluded that the consumption of electric energy does not positively affect GDP, therefore, a control variable (Economically Active Population) was added to improve the econometric model, resulting in a positive impact that goes from the EAP to the consumption of electric power and the GDP, that is to say, to greater economic growth and energy consumption, greater Economically Active Population. An economic alterative for our country is to improve the economic structure by focusing on other production alternatives other than hydrocarbons, it is one of the necessary alternatives to be taken by Ecuador in order to reduce the heavy depend |
