Opis
Izvleček:The present Curricular Integration Work is titled: “The Crisis of the Prison System in the Southern Zone of the Country,” which seeks to analyze the causes and impact of violence 3 in the Prison Crisis in Southern Ecuador since 2019, including the influence of factors such as narco-criminality and the struggle for territorial control. Since 2019, Ecuador’s prisons have been the scene of escalating violence, with riots and murders among gangs like the "Lobos," "Chone Killers," "Tiguerones," and others. This has resulted in dozens of deaths, dismemberments, and incinerations of bodies, revealing failures in rehabilitation and social reintegration policies. Therefore, it also aims to investigate the insufficiency of public policies in the national social rehabilitation system and their contribution to the crisis in detention centers, particularly in the southern part of the country. The goal is to help develop a proposal for public social rehabilitation policies centered on Human Rights and aligned with the National Development Plan and Article 201 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador. These policies should focus on the comprehensive rehabilitation and social reintegration of incarcerated individuals. In summary, the research problem aims to identify and recognize the most determining factors that have contributed to the prison crisis since 2019, as well as the causes that triggered it, in order to find effective solutions to prevent the increase of criminality in the prison system of Southern Ecuador and improve the rehabilitation and reintegration of incarcerated individuals, thus contributing to greater security and social well-being. Finally, in this Curricular Integration Work, materials and methods were used and applied to enable its development, including surveys and interviews with Incarcerated Persons, as well as legal professionals, whose results helped to propose guideline recommendations.
