Under this premise this research was carried out in the community of the Chantaco neighborhood of the Chantaco parish, in the canton and province of Loja. The purpose of the project was to assist the neighborhood in the construction of participatory solutions that would improve the quality of life for the citizens by ensuring that they had a voice in the decision-making process. The neighborhood organization was asked to cooperate with the project in diagnosing its main problems by organizing a public meeting with the residents of the neighborhood and their representatives. Then the community was invited to form a neighborhood directive since there was no established group for the community; information was collected to comply with the diagnosis through techniques such as an observation sheet, interviews to representative actors of the neighborhood and surveys to the heads of households or a representative of the family over 18 years old who could provide accurate information. The second objective was to provide training on the mechanisms of citizen participation to empower neighborhood leadership. Through a training plan developed with the Council of Citizen Participation, students were prepared to participate in front of the municipal institution authorities in front of the council. Furthermore, to assist in creating spaces where the citizens of the neighborhood may interact with the local institutional authorities, aimed at mitigating citizen demands, actions were coordinated with the Taquil Health Center in order to publicize the problem identified in the neighborhood, which is the high rate of alcohol consumption among the male population of the neighborhood, which should be prioritized. |
