| 總結: | Acute gastroenteritis (stomach flu) is a common pathology in childhood. The diarrhea is the main symptom, causing a global health problem that generates high health costs. The objective was to describe the risk factors that affect the appearance of gastroenteritis in children under 5 who entered the pediatric service of the San Vicente de Paul Hospital in the Pasaje County. This research had a quantitative approach, being descriptive and cross-sectional. The results that were evidenced after the field work were 52 children under 5 years with gastroenteritis, mostly 7-15 months, more than half of female sex and a little less than half, go to establishments such as nurseries or Initial Education centers. The incidence of acute gastroenteritis was 11.59 per thousand children under 5 years of age in the Passage Canton and also 30.9 per one hundred children admitted to the Hospital. The most outstanding risk factors were: bad eating habits where it was shown that children consumed mostly foods prepared by other people, and more than half consumed seafood, acidic foods and packaged drinks; on the other hand in relation to poor food handling of meats and vegetables, it was found that approximately half of the representatives had an inadequate handwashing practice and washed these foods entirely with tap water. Other risk factors were those related to environmental elements such as: the trips that took place in more than half of the children and the use of materials such as the feeding bottle, in almost all the sample could be closely linked to gastroenteritis.
