Summary: | The aim of this research work was to relate the initial percentage of bacterial plaque through O'Leary’s index, and its connection to dental loss of patients who were treated at Universidad Nacional de Loja Dental Clinic, period 2014-2015. 478 clinical periodontal charts and general diagnoses of patients who were treated at Universidad Nacional de Loja Dental Clinic were analyzed; in order to gather data an information form was used, this layout included some of the aspects considered throughout the research work. To find out the initial percentage of bacterial plaque, the periodontal chart was examined, after this, the percentage was evaluated using O'Leary’s index with the following approaches¬: from 0-30 Good%, from 31-60% Fair and from 61-100 Poor%. Finally the general diagnosis graphical was analyzed in order to find out the number of lost dental pieces and the ones suitable for extraction. The results showed that the initial percentage of bacterial plaque was Poor, in both, male and female group; regarding dental loss, the female group was the most affected. Moreover, it was determined that there is not a connection between the initial bacterial plaque percentage with dental loss; meanwhile there is a significant relationship between dental loss and age.
