Nexo causal entre la informalidad laboral, la calidad institucional, la innovación tecnológica, el capital humano, y el progreso económico en Ecuador durante 1990-2022 usando técnicas de series de tiempo

Informal employment is a problem that greatly affects the Ecuadorian population since it generates vulnerability in employees and losses in tax revenue. Over time it has played an important role in the economy. In 2021, the informality rate grew 6.43% with respect to 2020. In this sense, the present...

Тойм:Informal employment is a problem that greatly affects the Ecuadorian population since it generates vulnerability in employees and losses in tax revenue. Over time it has played an important role in the economy. In 2021, the informality rate grew 6.43% with respect to 2020. In this sense, the present research has set out to examine the causal link between labor informality, institutional quality, technological innovation, human capital and economic progress during 1990-2022, using statistical and econometric techniques, in order to propose public policies aimed at decreasing informality in the country. The data used in the research were compiled from the World Bank's database, the International Country Risk Guide and the Penn World Table. An econometric model of time series data with structural breaks was used, in which unit root tests, cointegration tests were estimated to determine structural patterns in the country, an error correction vector model to verify if there is a long-term relationship and to estimate the causal relationship between the variables of the model on labor informality. It was found that there is unidirectional causality going from human capital to economic progress, and that there is bidirectional causality from labor informality to institutional quality and technological innovation, and finally, that the informal economy does not tend to disappear in the long run. Therefore, it is important to apply policies aimed at providing alternative solutions that stimulate the creation of formal jobs and that focus on greater investment in education. Likewise, more control and regulation should be provided to companies and enterprises that are not created within the margin of the law in order to promote formal employment.
