Summary: | Nowadays, creativity has an important place in the development of thought; however, little is known about the elements that compose it; creativity deserves a privileged place in higher education institutions and teacher training since today's society increasingly demands creative people who are in charge of solving difficulties in an original way and are entities open to the labor field of education at its different levels. In this context, the main objective is to analyze the formation and conception of teachers; as well as to identify and interpret the skills and the contribution of the development of creative thinking in the university educational context. The methodological process was quantitative, and the type of research was descriptive, the sample was 42 teachers of the “Facultad de la Educación, el Arte y la Comunicación de la Universidad Nacional de Loja”. A bibliographic review was carried out; a questionnaire was used to collect information that allowed analyzing the training of university teachers regarding the development of creative thinking in order to identify and strengthen the conception, skills, and contribution in the educational field. It is concluded that the development of creative thinking presents advantages that favor the teachers, due to it allows the student to develop critical and divergent thinking skills, originality, fluency and flexibility, which helps them to create active and creative spaces in their future professional performance, hence the need for it to be considered in the teaching-learning process.
