الملخص:High blood pressure (HTN) has become one of the most lethal diseases due to the large number of consequences that this pathology carries with it, when the patient is aware of the disease they suffer from and knows the appropriate way to maintain it. controlled, shows a greater willingness to collaborate with the treatment, whether pharmacological or the daily self- care activities that each patient carries out according to the knowledge that the patient has about the disease. The purpose of this work was to determine the level of knowledge about high blood pressure and the self-care practices carried out by older adults at the Gerontological Center of the Célica canton. The study had a quantitative, analytical, prospective and longitudinal approach, whose population was 25 older adults from the Gerontological Center of the Celica canton, two instruments were used for data collection called: “Knowledge about hypertension” and “Lickert-type scale on practices”. "self-care on high blood pressure." Before the educational intervention, the low level predominated with 52% (n=13) of the total, and after it, the degree of knowledge that stood out was the medium level with 56% (n=14). Regarding self-care practices prior to the educational intervention, inappropriate practices predominated with 72% (n=18) of the total and subsequently appropriate practices stood out with 52% (n=13) of the total. Finally, it is concluded that there is a statistically significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the self-care practices of older adults, before and after carrying out the educational intervention, that is, the greater the knowledge, the better the self-care practices
