description | Radiotherapy in patients with oral cancer can cause a variety of oral complications that need to be understood in order to improve patient care and quality of life. This study aims to identify the most common oral side effects of radiotherapy, focusing on their physiological mechanisms, clinical presentation, severity and progression. This study aims to identify the most common oral side effects of radiotherapy, focusing on their physiological mechanisms, clinical presentation, severity, and progression. Furthermore, it aims to identify risk factors, assess the impact on the quality of life, and establish appropriate dental management strategies. The study is based on an extensive review of the literature, sourcing scientific articles and academic research from databases such as PubMed, Scielo, Elsevier, Google Scholar, MedLine, and Cochrane Library Plus. The review process included the search for keywords in both Spanish and English, organizing the information collected into a data matrix and processing the results to meet the defined objectives. The results show that the most common oral manifestations are oral mucositis and xerostomia, both present in 100% of the cases analyzed. These complications occur as acute effects during radiotherapy. Furthermore, there is a high prevalence of infections caused by Candida albicans and dysgeusia (88 percent), radiation-induced caries (50 percent), and osteoradionecrosis of the jaws (38 percent). Trismus and soft tissue necrosis were identified as less common but significant complications. The results indicate that oral manifestations of radiotherapy are common in patients with oral cancer and have a significant impact on their well-being. Therefore, early recognition and appropriate management of these complications are critical to improve the quality of life of these patients |

The results indicate that oral manifestations of radiotherapy are common in patients with oral cancer and have a significant impact on their well-being.
