Тойм:Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term that encompasses two chronic disorders of the digestive system: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Both conditions involve chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract but differ in symptoms and affected areas of the digestive tract. Fecal calprotectin (CF) is a protein released by white blood cells in the gastrointestinal tract in response to inflammation. Elevated CF levels are indicative of inflammation in the gut, which may be useful in diagnosing and monitoring IBD activity. For this reason, to establish their relationship, a systematic review was carried out to describe the prevalence of IBD in the adult population and the clinical usefulness of CF compared to other fecal markers and colonoscopy with biopsy as a reference test in IBD. In this review, 20 articles were analyzed, where the prevalence of IBD was highest in European countries (United Kingdom and Poland), Canada and Nepal, while the lowest prevalence was reported in Latin American countries (Colombia, Brazil, Mexico), Kazakhstan and Norway. In addition, it was demonstrated that CF is a reliable marker since it is above other markers in terms of sensitivity and specificity, only surpassed by the marker lipocalin 2 (LC2), which has only been studied in mucosal healing (CM). Therefore, it could be said that the clinical usefulness of CF when studying IBD is to be a good ally to colonoscopy with biopsy as a reference test
