What is known about sleep is the reason to learn if the poor quality of it in students of the Faculty of Human Health of the National University of Loja is related to academic performance; this may be due to study schedules, night shifts, academic workload, emotional stress and level of demand, which affect their physical and mental health. Therefore, establishing the relationship between poor sleep quality and academic performance was sought. For this purpose, a quantitative, cross-sectional study was carried out in 307 randomly selected participants in whom sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburg Index, and academic performance was obtained with the Grade Point Average of the last academic cycle. It was observed that 63.84% had poor sleep quality, more frequently in the female sex (45.9%). Very good academic performance corresponded to (19.54%) in whom there was no statistically significant relationship between the variables studied. Su importancia consiste en el hecho de que permite restaurar y reorganizar las funciones cognitivas implicadas en el aprendizaje requeridas en el transcurso del día. Su valor radica en la calidad, es decir se debe dormir un suficiente número de horas. Lo que se sabe sobre el sueño es el motivo para conocer si la mala calidad del mismo en los estudiantes de la Facultad de la Salud Humana de la Universidad Nacional de Loja tiene relación con el rendimiento académico esto puede ser debido a horarios de estudio, turnos nocturnos, carga académica, estrés emocional y nivel de exigencia, que repercuten en su salud física y mental. Por tanto, se buscó establecer la relación entre mala calidad de sueño y rendimiento académico. Para ello se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, transversal, en 307 participantes seleccionados al azar en quienes se valoró la calidad del sueño mediante el índice de Pittsburg, y el rendimiento académico, fue obtenido con el promedio global de notas del último ciclo académico. Se observo que el 63.84% tuvo mala calidad del sueño, en el sexo femenino más frecuente (45.9%). El rendimiento académico muy bueno correspondió al (19.54%) en quienes se evidenció. No hubo relación estadísticamente significativa entre las variables estudiadas.
