| Streszczenie: | This research paper explores two variables: overprotection and self-esteem, both addressed in direct relationship with the evolutionary development of children. The objectives proposed were defined to research the existence of overprotection, identify levels of self-esteem and establish the relationship between overprotection and self-esteem levels among the students of the private school Eugenio Espejo in the city of Loja. To meet the objectives outlined, scientific, descriptive and explanatory research methods were implemented, the sample consisted of 104 students between the ages eight to eleven, after considering the criteria for inclusion and exclusion, the instruments applied were the Scholar Self-esteem Test (TAE), in addition to a structured survey. The results showed evidence that: A group of 43 students are being overprotected which represents 41,35% of the sample, 31 students showcased low self-esteem levels equivalent to the 29,81% of the sample, followed by 8 students with average self-esteem levels equivalent to 7,69%, and finally 4 students with high self-esteem equivalent to 3,85% of the sample. There is an existing correlation between the variables between self-esteem and overprotection, considering that, from the student sample the individuals who showcased a higher level of overprotection also developed lower levels of self-esteem, while students who were less overprotected developed higher self-esteem levels. Finally, a pyscho-educational plan is being proposed with strategies to improve self-esteem levels. Keywords: Styles of parental upbringing, self-esteem and self-concept, child overprotection. |
