Ամփոփում:Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease of worldwide distribution affecting domestic and wild animals. And whose main reservoirs are rodents. Bovine leptospirosis causes numerous productive and economic losses, and research on its epidemiology in Ecuador is necessary. The objectives of this research were to identify the presence of antibodies against Leptospira spp. in serum and urine samples of the pathogen in cattle slaughtered in the Catamayo canton of Loja province, as well as to determine the factors associated with leptospirosis, we took serum and urine samples from 100 cattle over three years old, slaughtered during the months of November and December 2022, we analyzed the samples by serology (MAT) and conventional PCR for the 262 bp hap1 gene respectively. The presence of antibodies against Leptospira spp. was 16 % (16/100), and we identified eight circulating serovars: Hebdomadis, Australis, Autumnalis, Icterohaemorrhagiae, Grippotyphosa, Canicola, Copenhageni and Bataviae; no animal tested positive for the presence of pathogenic Leptospira in urine; and the factors sex, breed, age, and origin of the animals were not associated with the presence of the disease. In conclusion, we found the occurrence of leptospirosis in cattle slaughtered in Catamayo, although we did not determine factors that are closely associated with the disease.
