The Neighborhood Pasallal , where the research was conducted , does not have adequate sanitary toilet infrastructure , they have quick and easy access to health facilities and are not sufficiently addressed by authorities to ensure their welfare. This study set out to determine the percentage of hematocrit and hemoglobin and red cell indices and serum iron by applying manual and colorimetric method , linking iron levels with haematological parameters obtained with the aim of contributing to the presumptive diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia. This descriptive research included 62 children who met the inclusion criteria , for which informed consent was obtained , with the results reached the following conclusions : 31 % of children / as presented values of hematocrit, hemoglobin and decreased red cell indices , 35 % had decreased serum iron values and establishing a relationship between serum iron values obtained with haematological values was found that 31% of the study population are within a presumptive diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia and finally spread the results, the doctor of Health Sub - center of the parish Sanguillín , which were helpful for diagnosis and treatment of infants investigated. Los niños son especialmente susceptibles debido a su rápido crecimiento y la limitación de sus depósitos de hierro. En la Provincia de Loja en el año 2010, los índices de anemia eran del 64,1% en niños y niñas menores de 5 años. El Barrio Pasallal, lugar donde se realizó la investigación, no cuenta con una infraestructura higiénico sanitaria adecuada, no tienen acceso fácil y rápido a los centros de salud y no se encuentran suficientemente atendidos por autoridades que velen por su bienestar. En este estudio se planteó determinar el porcentaje de hematocrito y valores de hemoglobina e índices eritrocitarios y hierro sérico mediante la aplicación de método manual y colorimétrico, relacionando los niveles de hierro, con los parámetros hematológicos obtenidos, con la finalidad de contribuir al diagnóstico presuntivo de anemia ferropénica. La presente investigación de tipo descriptivo incluyó 62 niños que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, para lo cual se obtuvo un consentimiento informado; con los resultados obtenidos se llegó a las siguientes conclusiones: 31% de los niños/as presentaron valores de hematocrito, hemoglobina e índices eritrocitarios disminuidos, 35% presentaron valores disminuidos de hierro sérico y, estableciendo una relación entre los valores obtenidos de hierro sérico con los valores hematológicos se encontró que el 31% de la población de estudio se encuentran dentro de un presunto diagnóstico de anemia ferropénica; finalmente se difundió los resultados obtenidos, al médico del Sub-centro de Salud de la parroquia Sanguillín, los cuales sirvieron de ayuda para el diagnóstico y tratamiento de los infantes investigados.
