| Shrnutí: | Gastrointestinal parasites represent a global concern for the goat industry because they cause a significant reduction in production. These parasites produce functional alterations that manifest themselves in decreased weight gain, growth retardation and a decrease in milk production. The objective of this study was to determine the presence and risk factors associated with gastrointestinal parasites in goats in the Zapotillo canton of Loja province. A total of 100 samples of goat feces from 20 farms were collected and analyzed by flotation and sedimentation techniques. At the farm level, the presence of gastrointestinal parasites was determined in 100 % (20/20), while at the individual level it was 88.7 % (86/97), of which by the flotation method 68.7 % (57/83) belonged to nematode-protozoa, 19.3 % (16/83) to nematode and 12.0 % (10/83) to protozoa; The sedimentation method resulted in 45.5 % (35/77) belonging to nematode-protozoa, 44.2 % (34/77) to nematode and 10.4 % (8/77) to protozoa. Consequently, gastrointestinal parasites are a latent problem in this area, and for this reason it is necessary to establish deworming programs according to the characteristics of each farm. |
