Περίληψη:The application of innovative methods to solve mathematical problems improves the competencies and skills of students. The objective of this research was to analyze how problem-solving methods are used in the teaching of Mathematics in Higher General Basic Education. The research was framed in a mixed approach, its design was non-experimental and focused on descriptive research. In order to organize the information, it was used the deductive method, documentary review, statistical, analytical and synthetic. To collect the information, indexing and observation techniques were used, together with instruments such as: search log, bibliographic and content files, and a checklist. The results indicated that the methods that favor problem-solving are: George Pólya, Alan Schoenfeld, inductive and Open Algorithms Based on Numbers. However, the results obtained from the field study showed that teachers mostly apply traditional methods such as the deductive and the Closed Number-Based method. In conclusion, despite the existence of innovative methods, teachers tend to use traditional methods, hindering students to develop mathematical thinking.
