Samenvatting:The present research named “Psychological discomfort and academic performanace of university students from Loja city, 2021-2022”; has as a general objective to determine the psychological discomfort and the relationship with the academic performance of university students, for this purpose 310 university students from the Human Health Faculty of the National University of Loja were sampled, including the 5 careers: clinical laboratory, nursing, medicine, clinical psychology and dentistry. A sociodemographic survey and the Symptom Inventory SCL-90-R were used for the study, the results showed that there was no direct relationship between psychological distress and academic performance, the evidence shows that the overall severity index, in other words, the intensity of psychological distress in people who failed was 3.2% while, people with a good and excellent average, was 8.4% and 17.1%, respectively
