| Gaia: | Colorectal cancer, is a growing public health problem in the world; the findings in colonoscopies of the adult population, show that polyps are the first cause of progression to colon neoplasia. For this reason, the purpose of this study was to determine the morphology of colorectal polyps visualized during colonoscopy and, its usefulness as a predictor of dysplasia in patients at the Hospital Manuel Ygnacio Monteros, identify age group and sex that are most affected. The morphological characteristics and degree of dysplasia and establish employing chi-square whether is a relationship between these two characteristics. Was obtained a sample of 80 patients was obtained, with the following results, the age group with the highest frequency of polyps was between 65 and 69 years of age (30%), affecting both sexes, with a similar predisposition in men (50%) and in women (50 %), concerning the morphological characteristics it was evidenced that 88.7% presented a single polyp, 54% a size of 2mm to 8mm, 66.6% were sessile type, 31.1% with a location in the rectum. According to their histological characteristics, the most frequent was the tubular type 50%, 72.24% with low-grade dysplasia. Finally, employing the chi-square test, it was evidenced that there is an association between size and degree of dysplasia with a value of 0.002 lees than the significance level (0.05) Keywords: polyps, colorectal, dysplasia |
