| Тойм: | The plant species that provide Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) are used for their traditional, cultural and socioeconomic importance, giving social benefits and economic income to the communities that use them. Ignorance and lack of information on natural resources is a limitation for their conservation. This research aimed to contribute information on the traditional and current use of forest products other than wood; and, propose technical alternatives for its sustainable management in five communities of the Valladolid parish, Palanda canton, Zamora Chinchipe. Work was done in the communities: Tapala, La Libertad, San Gabriel, Fátima and Valladolid, considering the presence of forests and evidence of customs and traditions of plant use. 242 random surveys were applied to men and women, considering three age groups, botanical samples and photographs were collected for their identification in the “Reinaldo Espinosa” Herbarium. The information collected was systematized based on the 13 questions on the survey form. The parameters were calculated: value of use, frequency of use and significant value of use. A SWOT was applied to the participating communities and with the information from the first objective, alternatives for the management of NTFPs were proposed in a participatory manner. In the five communities studied, 70 species of 62 genera and 54 families are reported that are used as NTFPs, with trees being the predominant growth habit, leaves and fruits the most exploited parts; the population extracts products from the forest mainly, infrequently; collecting only the useful parts of the plant such as leaves, fruits, bark, latex, to satisfy self-consumption needs. The species with the highest use value is Heliocarpus americanus used as food and beverages, handicrafts, forage, human medicine, veterinary medicine and in living fences, followed by Erythrina edulis, Psidium guajaba and Piper aduncum with three uses respectively. The most frequently used category of NTFPs is human medicine, followed by use for food and drink, veterinary medicine, and the category of mystics and rituals. Of the 70 species registered, none reached the level of significant use required, which is greater than 20%, from the point of view of their cultural acceptance and validation. For interpretation purposes, the species that reached the highest significant use value are indicated: Piper aduncum, Croton lechleri, Heliocarpus americanus, Erythrina edulis and Ilex guayusa. The knowledge of the uses of the species between men and women is almost equal, there is a slight advantage in women since they are in charge of the care of their families. There is a marked loss of knowledge in the youth population. Based on the results obtained from traditional uses, frequency of use, significant use value and SWOT analysis applied in the community, the technical guidelines and strategic lines for the conservation, use and commercialization of NTFPs in the Valladolid parish were developed. two programs: Comprehensive Management of NTFPs of plant origin and formation of associative initiatives for economic reactivation, which prioritize the needs indicated by the population.
