Summary:This research work entitled: "Determinants of Neonatal Sepsis in patients in the Neonatology area of General Hospital Isidro Ayora Loja, period January - May 2014" states that infections have a great impact on neonatal morbidity and mortality. The general objective of the research pointed identify what are the determinants of neonatal sepsis in patients in the neonatology area of General Hospital Isidro Ayora. The specific objectives were projected to determine the main risk factors maternal-fetal and nosocomial and its relation with neonatal sepsis, identify the bacterial agents cultured in blood of newborn of neonatology service of General Hospital Isidro Ayora, correlation the score of sepsis with results of blood cultures and determine the antibiotics used in the treatment of neonatal sepsis. . This study is prospective, descriptive and transversal. A form of data collection was applied. The population studied was 50 cases of infants with a diagnosis of sepsis. They were concluded as principal maternal factors the urinary tract infections with a 78% and vaginal infections with 78% to 72%. The main neonatal determinants were: male gender with 62% and invasive procedures in 84%. The main etiological agent was the Staphylococcus coagulase negative with 8%. The score of neonatal sepsis has not direct bearing on the result of blood culture, in the present study there was a ratio of 14%. Finally, the most commonly used antibiotic scheme was ampicillin plus amikacin in 56%. Keywords: Newborn, neonatal sepsis, risk factors.
