description Vocabulary plays a crucial role in facilitating effective communication across all languages. Hence, it is important to implement innovative resources in order to facilitate EFL learners’ vocabulary learning. Therefore, this research aimed to increase vocabulary knowledge through digital games implementation among eighth graders at a public institution in Loja, during the 2022 – 2023 school year. In this sense, a mixed-method was employed, combining quantitative data analyzed through descriptive statistics and qualitative data interpreted through thematic analysis, using such data sources as pretest, posttest, mixed-type questionnaire, reflective journals and peer observations as data collection instruments. Consequently, significant differences between pretest and posttest mean scores were observed, indicating improvements in each vocabulary sub-indicator assessed, including associations, spelling, grammatical functions, collocations, and pronunciation, which means that digital game resources such as: Breshna, Factile, Gamilab, Mobbyt and Oddlu really improved EFL students’ vocabulary knowledge. In addition, students’ perceptions about the use of digital games to enhance vocabulary were highly positive, since the engaging and enjoyable nature of digital games increased their motivation, emotional involvement, active interaction, collaborative and critical thinking skills. In conclusion, the research results and findings demonstrated that digital games are an effective tool for enhancing students' English vocabulary. Por esta razón es importante implementar recursos innovadores que ayuden en el aprendizaje del vocabulario a los estudiantes de ILE. Por lo tanto, esta investigación tuvo como objetivo incrementar el conocimiento de vocabulario a través de la implementación de juegos digitales con estudiantes del octavo grado en una institución pública de Loja, durante el año lectivo 2022 – 2023. En este sentido, se empleó un método mixto con 24 participantes, combinando datos cuantitativos analizados a través de estadística descriptiva y datos cualitativos interpretados mediante análisis temático, utilizando pretest, posttest, cuestionario mixto, diarios de reflexión y observaciones entre pares como instrumentos de recolección de datos. Consecuentemente, se observaron diferencias significativas entre las puntuaciones medias del pretest y el posttest, lo que indica mejoras en cada subindicador de vocabulario evaluado, incluyendo asociaciones, ortografía, funciones gramaticales, colocaciones y pronunciación, lo que significa que los juegos digitales: Breshna, Factile, Gamilab, Mobbyt y Oddlu realmente mejoraron el conocimiento de vocabulario de los estudiantes de EFL. Además, las percepciones de los estudiantes sobre el uso de juegos digitales para mejorar el vocabulario fueron muy positivas, ya que la naturaleza atractiva y divertida de los juegos digitales aumentó su motivación, implicación emocional, interacción activa y habilidades de pensamiento crítico y colaborativo. En conclusión, los resultados y los hallazgos de la investigación demostraron que los juegos digitales son una herramienta eficaz para mejorar el vocabulario de inglés de los estudiantes.
