Özet:Border disease is an infectious disease of worldwide distribution, whose causal agent is a virus of the genus Pestivirus (VEF), responsible for producing reproductive alterations such as spontaneous abortions, embryonic reabsorptions and a significant reduction in fertility rates in females. It also causes deterioration in the immunological status of neonates, resulting in the birth of weak kids. Because of the high transmissibility of the virus, the history of reported cases of the disease in neighboring Peru and the presentation of reproductive disorders in goats in the Zapotillo canton, together with the economic losses in sheepfolds, it is important to conduct research on this disease in Ecuador. The aims of this research were to identify the presence of antibodies against the border disease virus in goats from Zapotillo canton in the province of Loja and to determine the factors associated with its presentation. For this purpose, blood samples were taken from 92 goats from 19 farms in Limones parish and epidemiological information was collected from a survey of the owners. The samples were analyzed by competitive ELISA for the detection of antibodies against the p80 protein (NSP2-3) of the virus. 100% (92/92) of the goats tested were seronegative in the test for circulating antibodies against FADV so the analysis could not be run to determine associated factors.
