| Shrnutí: | This investigation analyzes the representation of power institutions in the songs by the Ecuadorian rock bands Aztra and Tanque. The methodological approach was qualitative and used a documentary and literary analysis design. The corpus selected for this investigation includes an album by the rock band Tanque, entitled Hasta la muerte de su titular, as well as three other albums by the rock band Aztra, entitled Tierra libre, Insurgente and Raíces Latinoamérica. The applied techniques and instruments included the documentary review, categorization methods, content analysis and the use of a data collection sheet for both the power representation analysis and the discourse strategies. The results showed that the bands Aztra and Tanque depict the power institutions of Ecuadorian society in a critical and reflective manner. Both bands use their lyrics to question and condemn the different kinds of authorities, such as the power of the State, church and mass media. Exercises of power such as repression, corruption and manipulation were identified in the lyrics, using various discourse strategies. The songs of these bands offered a critical view of the political and social reality, while advocating for change and justice. |
