Gaia:The World Health Organization announced that cancer is a principal cause of mortality in the world, in 2012 there was 14 million cases and 8.2 million cancer-related deaths. It is anticipated that the number of new cases increased by about 70% in the next 20 years. Hence the need for doing this research, which objective was to determine the incidence of personality traits in depressive states, in patients diagnosed with cancer who are attended to the Hospital by the Oncology Hospital SOLCA Núcleo de Loja. The research was descriptive - transversal, because it shows the relationship of personality traits in depressive states in patients diagnosed with cancer, it was transversal and its purpose applied. The researcher worked with a universe of 40 patients; to which we applied the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory III, and the scale for the evaluation of the depression of Beck, which provided basic data that, led the psychological diagnosis.The MCMI announced that the personality traits most prevalent is the dependent with 35%; followed by the avoidant with 15% and the compulsive with 13%. The Beck depression test, allowed determine that 48% of surveyed have a moderate depression; 25% correspond to an average depression; 15% were diagnosed with severe depression; and finally 12% have levels of mild depression. The results allowed to determine that the personality traits most prevalent was the type C with 64%, associated with symptoms of moderate to severe levels of depression; followed by group A with 27%, with an average presence of depression; and finally the group B with 9%, with levels of mild depression. These figures allow us to conclude that personality traits affect depressive states, in patients diagnosed with cancer, hence the need to intervene psychologically and through comprehensive treatment before, during and after the communication of the diagnosis; in the perspective of providing care through therapeutic techniques that help the processing of their disease and therefore improve their emotional state.
